We’re moving to Sihanoukville, but will give birth at Royal Phnom Penh hospital, so they could be located in either place as I’ll have to go back and forth.

Thanks so much!

Hi Kate it seems like you may have the same answers I’m looking for. Is it possible for me to email you some questions I have, baby is due soon and getting nervous. Let me know.

I luckily came across helpful mums in Facebook and I got the info I needed! Just to dhare to anyone else who has the same question.

The process for births in Cambodia is tedious and confusing. You need a birth certificate from your sangkat. Your best bet is to have a Khmer friend help you with this. It will cost anywhere from $5-$80. You will need to be in an original birth certificate from the hospital and will have to fill out a form that is written entirely in Khmer.

Then you will need to get that birth certificate translated and certified (can be done at most translation places).

It’s worth noting that you have 3 months from the date of your child’s birth to get their passport and visa.

To get the visa you have to get a special exit visa that is only valid for one week. Then you have to make an order run, re-enter the country and then get the one year business visa (and pay the regular price)

You will be charged $10 per day after the initial 3 month period.

I’m not sure, to be honest! It was only recently that they started requiring visas for babies. I have heard three months, but I would check in some of the Cambodia parenting groups on Facebook to confirm.
